Hi!

Wow. Livejournal. It's been a long time.

I feel like an absolute traitor coming back to write here after cheating on it for so long with Facebook and Myspace. I have one miss Marie Mosot to thank for re-electrifying my love for lj, and hell, I haven't even met her yet.

Sooo..what to say..I'll be leaving soon for Carleton College(minnesota) for a three week hardcore writing program with kids from all over America (and Turkey too I think? and Venezuela?) which is where I will make some future friends, like Marie, then I'll come back to New York in time to visit some pennsylvania colleges and do Twelfth Night in the Shakespeare Summer Seminar! Pretty bee busy.

I don't have much else to say, I need a bit more time to get back into the swing of things, but I think I want to reacquaint myself with this journal once again.

I LOVE YOU DADDY.

Also, I love prom and all the drama it's causing + the fact that my life has become similar to every high school movie ever made and I love every minute of it.

Last year in May I made a list of potential prom dates for this year because I was afraid I would ask someone too late and have no one to go with. There were eleven people on the list and I want to post it because it's funny and shows how pathetic I was/am but I won't because it's also awkward.

I also joined Yoga Club!

I read Cat's Eye for BritLit. I liked it a lot.
Also, I was nostalgically surprised with this particular excerpt.

page 328

"Stratford is only on in the summers, though. She will have to think of something else for the winter...

She got the job at Stratford with the help of one of her Earle Grey cousins...She is one of Prospero's attendant spirits in The Tempest, and has to wear a body stocking, with a gauzy costume on top, sprinkled with dried leaves and spangles. 'Obscene,' she says. She's also a mariner in the first scene; she can get away with this because of her height..."

page 330

"Cordelia gets me a free ticket to Stratford, so I can see her in action. I go on the bus. It's a matinee: I can get there, see the show, then take the bus back in time for my evening shift at the Swiss Chalet. The play is The Tempest. I watch for Cordelia, and when Prospero's attendants come on, with music and jittery lighting effects, I peer hard, trying to see which one she is, behind the disguise of the costume. But I can't tell."

It's funny, because clearly these directors made the spirits wear black masks too.
Yeara was also going to make the Ariels wear body stockings. Pretty much everyone blew up at him for that. I miss Shakespeare.

Among others, Alec and Bethany have combined financial forces to get me this gorgeous emerald ring for Christmas!

When I first got it, I was so surprised and happy! A few minutes later, I was sorely tempted to pull a Melanie Diaz and tell everyone Alec proposed and then cry when he'd tell me otherwise. Haha. But I didn't.

Also, the extremely dramatic Caroline Lang issue has passed and Alec and I are together again, after much emotionity, conversation, and doubt. I decided I didn't want to give up what we had for a drunken mistake? I believe in second chances. Hopefully everything will work out. It seems good now.

My tree is up.
Hey guys.

Shakespeare is half over.
Pictures are up. They're not as good as others might have and definitely not as good as the shakey website but they exist nevertheless.
http://community.webshots.com/user/one_gopher_left

Also, everyone seems to have a set mind that Yeara is retiring next year for sure. I really don't think he is. I'm not like in the denial phase, I just really don't think he would do that, not with our class. I'm not going to worry about it until he makes it official.

It's weird getting back to being home at three. There's so much time to do whatever I want. It's like summer vacation but with school sometimes.

Is anyone else getting ridiculous amounts of parental pressure about college lately?

I'm mostly asking for gift certificates this Christmas. I used to have all this specific crap picked out, like two years ago I wanted an Arctic Twister Ice Cream Maker, purple colored, with the extra ice cream mix pouches and chocolate sprinkles. I was just entering BCHS and I figured having my own ice cream maker in my house would help me make friends.

I was/am a really lame kid. I think gift certificates would be good presents now though. I'm starting to hate my old clothes (neon tights, fuzzy pink pants) and admire people wearing abercrombie and american eagle. I don't think I'm growing out of my old me, I just think I'm realizing how weirdly different I was from everyone else.

I can't believe I used to paint my shoes.
And wear lollipops in my hair.
And that homemade hat.

My god.

I thought I was so unique and cool.

Then on other nights, Molly Moriarity, Caroline Lang, and Madison Serras will be rocking out as "Delicate Ariel 1,2,and 3." Emo pumpkins!
2) Totally bursting into tears while watching Grey's Anatomy tonight...does ANYONE else watch that show? Right after Desparate Housewives. Everyone needs to watch it. Tonight there were two people skewered with a pole in a train crash. It's like ER but better.
3) Knowing I'm going to have puffy eyes tomorrow from #2 but oh! It's Halloween! So I can hide under tons of eyeliner and it's okay!
4) When Fris says anything at all.
5) Special K Red Berries with milk.
6) Fulfilling midnight hunger pangs with cold cereal.
7) Alec growing a real real beard to realistically play Dylan Lewis's dad in The Tempest.
8) Knowing tomorrow night will be amazing.
9) Seeing my first Harry Potter movie trailer commercial tonight of Dan Radcliffe, shirtless, sitting in a tub.
10) Having to push my cat to a corner of my bed EVERY SINGLE NIGHT since he always rapes all my pillow space.

I tag Tara, Liam, Veronica, Amy, and Andrew because I really think those are the only people of whom I don't know what they would put on this list.
Firstly, Halloween is very soon. This is my favorite holiday and I have never trick-or-treated in Delmar before, so I would really like to.

Too many friends have too many different plans and it's pissing me off slightly so I am inviting everyone to post their plans for Halloween right now if you want to do something so I can properly go through and pick what sounds funnest for my first Delmar halloween. I'm not being greedy, I'm just planning ahead.

Secondly.

You can't just start saying you've loved Pocky forever when you tasted it like a week ago. Stop following the crowd, I know Pocky is really awesome and I'm all for spreading it around Bethlehem but people look dumb when they start carrying pocky everywhere, saying they're so cool just because they have it. There are the original pocky lovin peoples:

Laura-Nicole Sisson
Popi Sen
Glenna Morgan
Jessi Lee
Faolain Barrett
me
edit: MollyR

And yeah, that's all I can think of right now. Sorry if I forgot someone. My brain is blown from working at Cold Stone all day.

Also I'm having trouble finding a good costume. Especially because Alec insists on wearing this while hanging out with me.
Any ideas?

Dear Everyone,

Alec and I would like to express our gratitude for making last night such a fun time. We are thoroughly sorry for leading you all on to believe we had viciously broken up on Popi's livejournal _wanderjahr_ But in all honesty, we know we provided a part of Bethlehem with some much needed drama and entertainment. Every once in a while this town needs something new to talk about. So you really should be thanking us for that, not to mention your overwhelming concerned ims were just as entertaining for us, so it really was a win-win thing.

Our amazing job of acting was indeed our own writing and direction, but we did have some help. Firstly, we would like to thank Caroline Lang and Patrick Rooney as best supporting actors to help speed along the belief that Alec and I had, in fact, begun to stray. We would also like to thank all of you, which without your extremely hilarious reactions, this would not have been as enjoyable.

Just to clarify for the extremely slow, Alec and I did NOT break up, the entire argument was very well staged and it was awfully hard to act angry and hurt about it without letting anything slip. Everything we wrote about each other was an utter lie, but you have to admit we did an excellently believable job.

On a more personal note, really sorry if we offended anyone, I doubt that'll be an issue since I don't tend to be friends with sense-of-humor-less people, but just in case. I love you all. Alec and I were just deepening our relationship persay. Anger is the purest form of passion, in my opinion. We are quite secure. I just think constant fights are extremely healthy and Coach Smith thinks so too.

And scene.

I've lost complete interest in livejournal.
I find myself checking this site anyway because last year, it cemented itself into my daily routine. I tell myself I won't go on today because anything anyone says is something I don't give a fuck about, but here I am all the time, which probably hints I'd be a really dedicated chain smoker or alcoholic.

Also, as September came and gone, I've found that people I really liked and respected turned out to be shallow drama queens or arrogant assholes. I've blatantly broken friendships with several people, none of which I sorely miss.

That being said, in bchs, there are nineteen people in total that I still hold any affection/respect for. They must've done something right.

Does junior year seem strangely like Harry Potter 6 to anyone?

Yes, these are jellies.

Tuesday: Went to Iolani Palace, it was a great tour, I thought it would suck, but our guide was this crazy, wrinkly, old asian and she was jumping around from room to room and she just got me really excited about history which doesn't happen often/ever. Cameras weren't allowed inside.
A sweet pile of bricks.

Wednesday: BEST DAY. First we went scuba-diving and I brought my underwater camera so those pictures should be really awesome after theyre developed. Coral reefs are amazing. But the REALLY good thing was we went to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Oh. My. God.

Ok, so it was a gigantic-closed-off-from-the-city-area that held native tribes from Tongo, Tahiti, Hawaii, Marquesas, Samoa, Aotearoa, and Fiji. Each tribe had a little island full of shows, cultural food, and classes on language and stuff like weapon-making and tree-climbing. There was so much to do!

First we took the canoe ride around the whole place, the scenery was really mindblowing, we were literally in a tropical rainforest, it had waterfalls and coconut trees and everything.

The first stop was Tongo, we watched the drum show, they had these log drums and their hands moved SO fast, they looked blurred.
Drummer boyz.

Next, we went to an IMAX show about tropical fish and how they're dying faster than ever because the coral population is dwindling. I left the theater feeling awful about not doing my part to save the coral reef and a little disoriented from the 80 foot screen.

Then we went to Tahiti where we watched a show with Tahitian Belly Dancers. Their hips move incredibly fast then they invited people (including me onstage) to learn how to dance. It was embarrassing and I won't post pictures of that. I'm good though, I could totally be in a show.
THEN THEY MADE TAHITIAN COCONUT BREAD. It was like a cooking show with free samples at the end. You were only supposed to take one piece but I took a handful and stashed it in my purse, then I left nonchalantly.

We went to Marquesas where they had a mock pig hunt (the pig was really a fat man they picked out of the audience. ha-ha-ha that's got to be humiliating.) Then there was more dancing and I got a Marquesian tattoo.
I want chicken,
I want pork,
Run little piggy,
I have a fork.

A genie(?)

We skipped Fiji and Hawaii because they seemed dull and we'd see them in the Canoe pageant and night festival anyway.

Then we went to Samoa, which was by far the best. A guy made fire from a coconut, and another guy climbed a coconut tree with his bare hands.
FUEGO

The view from below was startling, because men in Samoa wear skirts.

Finally- Aotearoa. The other villages had drums as their primary means of music but Aotearoans (Ow-tay-ah-row-ahns)used poi balls, which were these white balls on red strings that they hit each other with and it made a "puh" sound. Then they made music with little pole sticks. Varied percussion...
"pole dancing." haha.

Then we watched the canoe pageant, it had boats with mini shows from each place:
See the poi balls?

I ate a Hawaiian meal.

Then we attended the NIGHT SHOW.

Thursday: Relaxed before the flight home...We went to Lanikai Beach, supposedly the most beautiful beach in the United States, it had bright turquoise water, powder white sand, and it was pretty deserted. Perfect.
Paradise, bitches.

Afterwards, on the drive home, we found a COLD STONE!
Luckily I brought my Cold Stone hat with me and wore it that day, so we stopped and I burst in like, "I WORK HERE! I WORK HERE! I WORK AT THE COLD STONE IN ALBANY!"
Their ghea was broken, the manager was surprisingly nice, she taught me how to make toasted coconut for dipping waffle cones so I could show my manager back home. Then she offered me an employee discount.

My dad said to me quietly "Katrina the ice cream is ridiculously expensive here, let's just go to Haagen-Daaz." And we did. I got purple Ube ice cream. Bizarre, huh?
Ube: a tropical potato

Also, we encountered the popo.

And cocktails.

The flight home was perfect. We sat with these cool stoners.

The Tan Timeline, see a difference?

I'm REALLY glad to be home though...because as fun and amazing as Hawaii is, being on that little island for too long is just...awful, like by the tenth day I was feeling really claustrophobic and it's weird that you can drive around the coast Oahu in only four hours. That's how small it is. It feels like no matter what, you can't really get anywhere. You're just stuck on this piece of land. And the weather is perfect every day.

Ew, no, I couldn't handle that. I'd need constant change, I LOVE fall and winter and snow and thunderstorms. When it lightly rained one day we were in Waikiki, a bunch of bleached blonde girls ran past me in the street yelling "OMIGOD IT'S RAINING SO HARD!"

God, they wouldn't last a day in the mainland.
I love New York.

At least I can now buckle down, get some AP done, make some ca$h, catch up with friends, and do the Shakey program. I really look forward to school starting...lame, i know, but I just really miss everyone and i LOVE back-to-school shopping so...yeah. Life is good.
The Stalker Files... This Week: Albany Airport

Hey guys.
I'm back.
Except I never left.
Delta Airlines sort of screwed us over.

Before takeoff, a piece of machinery blew off the plane and caused a bunch of technical problems. We had to go back to the front room and rebook the next flight...which is tomorrow. So here we are, back at home.

It's okay though, it could be WAY worse, like that piece could've broken off while we were in the air and we would've died. And I feel bad for the ppl who needed that flight halfway somewhere else, and now they have to find a hotel to stay tonight last minute.

Plus, I had a great time in the airport, since airports are my favorite places ever. Not only are they clean and full of novelty stores, but I can always find something fun to do while my parents wait in lines or something. For example:

I meant to do my AP homework. I totally did. I had it out and everything.

Then HE came along.

With his platinum blonde hair.

Security was a bitch.

But I'm a good stalker.

And somehow me and Blondy ended sitting on the same ledge. Coincidence? I think not.

I stalked this kid for the whole six hours we were at the airport, I was amazing at it too. I watched him eat McDonalds (fries and an egg sandwich,) I took stealthy pictures of him DESPITE the fact that his mother was there (she never caught on,) and I found out his real name. It's Aaron. I got it when his mom called for him to bring her his juice.
She spilled it on the floor while waiting in line and made Aaron get paper towels to clean it up. What a bitch.

Anyway, while juicing his mother, I got what book he was reading.

So he obviously has good taste.

It was sad leaving Aaron...this is the sort of thing my friends would lecture me about. I don't know why I like boys with the platinum white blonde hair. For example, Spike from Buffy? Love him. Ryan Gosling in Remember the Titans? Love him. The boy who plays Malfoy in the HP movies? Love him, even though Bethany scolded me about him being a skeeze. But he's BRITISH.

I read somewhere that guys like girls who slightly remind them of their moms and girls like guys who slightly remind them of their dads. It's supposed to generate attraction through feelings of home life/comfort and other psychological stuff. I think this is the most ridiculous concept ever known to man.

But then again.
What color is my dad's hair?

Yeah. Exactly.

I'm leaving tomorrow, slight change of plans, we're flying to Hawaii instead and going to Greece next winter when it's not grossly overpriced.

Either way, it's a ferociously boiling vacation spot that was made for honeymooners and old men, not asian/scotch couples with a moody teenage daughter that wants nothing but to stay home and read Harry Potter 6.

I know I'm being an awful spoiled brat, I swear it's going to stop. I think Hawaii could be cool, plus we reserved a volcano expedition where we explore a (hopefully dormant) inside of a volcano (i guess they have a tour set up there?) Wish me luck that nothing erupts in the next ten days.

If anyone wants a postcard or for me to bring them back something (lei? coconut bra? hula girl?) leave a comment and i just might do it if i see the comment in time.

As the Hawaiians say, A HUI HOU and ALOHA AU I HAWAI`I!

Today was Bethany's surprise party.

Tess and I labored for weeks (hours) over what amazing party theme to do. We couldn't think of anything. Really.

I thought "Broadway!" Tess thought Broadway was too general for a party theme.
Tess thought "vicars and tarts." I thought, "wtf?"

We really should've asked Glenna.

We finally settled on an insane Water Balloon war. We broke out the water guns, filled four buckets and one LAUNDRY BASKET full of balloons, and decorated the yard with lei flowers and pink/green streamers.

Attendees:
Molly Gordon
Krissy Conroy
Dan Van Deusan
Dylan Lewis
Bethany Karpowitz
Me and Tess
Matt Baboulis
Mike Rooney
Faolain Barrett
Matt Goldstein
Joanna Zwickel
Jackie Avitabile
Pat Rooney

During the intense guerilla warfare, MattB removed his shirt to reveal his shockingly white bod vs. his extremely tan arms/head. "I'm burning!" he yelled. Tess saved the day with her bottle of sunblock, and in the process of lathering up, Matt&Dylan became men.

Then the war got intense when buckets of ice water began to be thrown. An intense fight club wrestle arose between MattB and yours truly. But the first rule of fight club is "Don't talk about Fight Club." So. Your loss.

Then the men got a little rowdy over the good water gun:

NOW, the plan of our surprise party was for everyone to have a fat water balloon ready for when Bethany arrived. We were going to ambush her with guns and balloons.......but in our excitement of the ongoing water war, Bethany was brutally ignored when she arrived, as seen below. Just when I took this picture did I actually realize she was standing awkwardly in the yard, waiting for a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY."

Everyone was like "oh shit!" and scrambled to get a water balloon to carry out the surprise. Tess and I are completely to blame...we really failed at the whole surprise thing. I'm so so so sorry Beth. We'll get it right next time. errrrrrr...i suck.

BTW, while shopping for the pinata, i had severe limitations concerning the fact that the party would include hardcore vegans&vegetarians, meaning that beating an animal with a bat would be...unhospitable.
So Tess said, "Get a pinata that's not an animal."

Can I just say, party stores sell no such thing. After scouring the aisles of pigs, fish, donkeys, birds, and bunnies in "Party Warehouse" for nearly fifteen minutes, i told my mom to help.

"Help me find a pinata for the party," I said, "But make sure it's not an animal."

She came back five minutes later saying, "Katrina! Katrina! I found the perfect one!" She found this.

The thing was about five inches in height. Not to mention the fact that it was a cactus. wtf, Mom, wtf.

The rest of the party rocked, obviously, we smashed the pinata (a jukebox,) ate, and drank heartily. Tess and I each made a cake, i made cookie dough ice cream cake, and tess made germanchokolatekake. I fully intended to take pics of their delicious goodness, but i lost my camera for the remainder of the party, hence, no mas fotos.

While playing Girl Talk (requested by Matt Baboulis) we came to the realizations that games like this are the reason for the many problems that teenage girls have today. Like consider the game itself, giving out cards for girls to judge each other on "best body," "nicest skin," and "prettiest" can immediately lower a girl's self-esteem if they're not picked for anything...and then the whole thing with the "if you don't do a dare, you get a zit sticker!" i mean, how much pressure is that for six to thirteen-year-olds? To quote Dylan, this game is the reason so many girls are anorexic and drug addicts today!!!!

...but is it wrong to still love it? I mean, apart from all the emotional scarring, it's great family fun.

After a few scandalous rounds of old-school-truth-or-dare, people had to leave, and me, beth, and tess just collapsed on the couch and talked.

Then to top it off, it started thunderstorming when i got home. My favorite things in the world are thunderstorms. I found a neighbor-friend and enjoyed the rain.

Today was a really good day.
